Competent Charter Crew (CCC) Training Program

HEY EVERYONE!

We’re REALLY excited to announce the launch of our very first Competency program!

As you can see from the title - Yes! It is a training program for anyone who is keen to join the yacht charter industry, and learn more about what it takes to be a yacht charter crew.

If you have been following us, you will probably notice that once in a few months when we have new joiners, we’ll conduct our very own crew training, to introduce the foundations of sailing and boat handling to our new team mate. This is essentially what the course is about.

Over the years of operating yacht charters, we have experimented with countless methods in all aspects our business operations - from taking care of our yachts (fixing, servicing, maintaining the ins & outs), to managing clients during charters - we are proud to say that we have created our very own success formula, and through this course, you will get to learn them too!

If you’re wondering why we are sharing OUR “trade secrets”, here are a few reasons:

  1. We HOPE to improve industry standards

From the time when we first started and there were only a handful of charter boats in the marina, to its current grandeur of 50+ charter boats, we have interacted with countless marina crew, boat owners, captains, crew, and charter guests - and realised that the gap between what is expected versus what is delivered can sometimes be very wide. As our industry is relatively small compared to the rest of our maritime industry, there isn’t a set of standards that charter skippers and crew can be guided by. Each charter company runs by their own set of values and methods, thus resulting in different service experiences on board. Through this program, we hope to inspire individuals to adopt our service standards. Over time, with more students graduating from our program, we hope that our efforts can be spread across all charters in the industry.

  2. We want to introduce thE REALITY OF THIS industry to OUR younger folks

Many of our guests have always gushed at how lucky we are to be working on board a charter yacht. Many aspire to join us, especially those who share the same love for the outdoors and the sea as much as we do. However, beyond the glitz and glamour that our guests experience during the charter, a lot of hard work goes into the behind-the-scenes - servicing and maintaining our yachts, preparation before every charter, and hidden service elements to ensure that we deliver what was promised to our guests.

The charter industry is expanding at a rapid rate, and everyone is looking to hire new blood. Many times, what a crew expects versus what is expected of them turns out quite different, which causes the turnover rate of the industry to remain high. Through this program, we want to manage the expectations of a yacht crew and introduce the reality of this industry, so that there is better succession for all of our fellow boaters.

  3. we want to continue inspiring everyone on how to be a happy sailor

Other than just a charter crew, we want to continue inspiring everyone to be a happy sailor! Being out at sea, we learn to respect the wild. We learn to be more aware, adaptive and appreciative of our surroundings to cope with potential situations that will arise out at sea. In terms of sailing, none of us in the team members are professional sailors - each one of us picked up sailing from someone else (each other, to be exact!), and fell in love the art of harnessing the power of nature, the art of paying attention to wind, to waves, and to tides, and the art of embracing what nature has to give! Most of such skills have spilled over to our day-today lives, as we grow to be more aware and appreciative of the things around us, allowing us to grow and become a happier person :D

In a nutshell, this is What will be covered in this course:

  • Expectations of a Charter Crew: Your Role as a Charter Crew, Dos & Don’ts

  • Boat Basics - Parts of a Boat, Knots, Navigation

  • Physics of Sailing + Points of Sail

  • Yacht Care - Boat Maintenance (cleaning, polishing, and engine servicing), including hands-on experience

  • Service Excellence - how you should care for your guests on board

Upon completing the course, all participants will be required to take and pass a written and practical assessment. You will then be assessed on your level of competency and readiness for hire in the industry!
